First Annual 2 Fly for Hope Fundraiser at Rose River Farm – October 24

This just in from Rose River Farm, Madison County, Virginia….

Casting for Recovery

On October 24 Rose River Farm will be the site of the First Annual 2 Fly For Hope “The Pink Fly” fundraising tournament.  Casting for Recovery is a program that works with women who have or have had breast cancer.  The program uses fly fishing as a tool to aid in physical and emotional recovery through weekend fly fishing retreats.  There are still a few 2 person team spots open for all fly anglers that want to support this wonderful organization. You can learn all the details at

Current conditions in Madison County….

Water levels are low– but they are high enough to stock and the weather has been cool.  And while the conditions make for challenging fishing, I know from all the emails that I have been receiving, that everyone wants to get out and enjoy this wonderful fall weather and mountain scenery.  With a little more rain the conditions will improve dramatically.  We have had a good number of holdover fish again this summer and we have seen a number of stream born fingerlings.  October and November still have openings and it is not to early to book for December.

Also….Wine Tasting Weekends

We will have two weekends of wine tasting and sales October 10,11 and October 17,18.  The hours will be 12 to 6 and we will have all three of our wines available– Impeccable Peach, Rockfish White and Rainbow Trout Red.  The tastings and sales will be held under the big white tent that will be set up along Old Blue Ridge Turnpike at the Farm. These tastings are being held the same weekends as the Graves Mountain Lodge Festivals (lots of arts and crafts, blue grass music and fun for the kids) so it is a great time to come out and enjoy the Virginia Piedmont. If you have any questions or want to reserve a case of wine in advance (we only have about 50 cases of each vintage remaining) please email me.

Located on route 231 in Amissville is the Epicurious Cow (ECOW).  They have great organic food, snacks, beer and wine to go and with a call ahead or email can prepare a lunch or picnic to go. They can be reached at 540 675-2269.
