Virginia Community Wood Energy Program

The purpose of the program is to establish a statewide Community Wood Energy Program (CWEP). Working with the Virginia Department of Forestry and other private industry and government partners, stakeholders and other interested parties, the program will increase the awareness and use of community (local) wood energy with a primary focus on thermal and combined heat and power (CHP). The initial focus of the project is to develop a tool for identifying and screening potential woody biomass users, create an education and outreach program to increase awareness of and to serve as a resource for woody bioenergy in the Commonwealth and the Southeast, provide project development support to multiple candidate community wood energy projects, and establish the social and financial foundation for the program’s continuity.

A standalone website has been developed at Information about the program is regularly posted at the wood energy website.
