StreamSweepers and NCCC meet with District 9 Congressman, Morgan Griffith

This past Thursday, September 3, StreamSweepers and the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Team in SWVA had a virtual meeting with Virginia’s 9th District Congressman, Morgan Griffith. District 9 encompasses the Southwest tip of Virginia to Martinsville on the East, and North to Clifton Forge, Virginia.

After a brief introduction of the history of the StreamSweepers program by Mid-Atlantic Manager, Kira Lander, The NCCC team leader, SJ Cross discussed their role on the Clinch River with StreamSweepers. StreamSweepers’ On-water Manager, Wilder Meade and 2019 Sweeper and River Maintenance Stewardess, Bryona Ward, gave testimonials for their past work with the program before several NCCC team members shared their experiences this year. The meeting then opened for questions before concluding.

We look forward to many similar outreach opportunities in the future. Although face-to-face meetings are currently suspended, this virtual discussion was proof that connections can indeed be made in these current times of distance communication.
